“You’re killin’ me smalls!” How many times have you heard this phrase? This classic baseball film, The Sandlot is a movie for all types of audiences. This movie speaks out to kids and adults, who once were kids, all over America. Baseball is the summer sport that has kept kids out of trouble for years, well besides breaking windows, learning to steal (bases that is), and when your ball gets stuck behind the fence of a very scary dog. All of these experiences are what bring kids together to be well, KIDS!
The Sandlot is a great story of a shy kid who starts to hang out with a group of guys who play baseball. This bonding experience helps him to learn about baseball, friendship, oh yeah, and “The Beast”. As these boys find themselves in some trouble, they must come together to save a prize possession from their worst nightmare. Movies such as this one are a great reminder of what it means to be a kid, as well as showing an appreciation for the game of baseball.
The Sandlot portrays everything you hope for in a summer as a kid, from playing all day, to adventure, to going to the pool, and even first loves. Who could forget when squints says, “I’ve been coming here every summer of my adult life, and every summer there she is oiling and lotioning, lotioning and oiling… smiling. I can’t take this no more!” about Wendy the girl of his dreams? Although this is a humorous line, Wendy has the right idea with the sun tan lotion. Protecting your skin is such an important thing to remember in the summer. In the movie The Sandlot, everyday seems to be a scorcher. We see the hot sun and sweat while playing at the field and sometimes you just need to head to the pool. Staying hydrated and cool is key in the summer, as Ham Porter said, “This pop isn’t workin’, Benny! I’m bakin’ like a toasted cheese-it! It’s so hot here!” Water is the best thing for your body in the summer, but with all that swimming your protective lotion is bound to rub off. Then its time to head for the shade! With portable shade umbrellas you can stay cool and protected from the harmful UV rays of the sun. This is good news for all you boys with summer crushes, because lobster sunburn never wins over the ladies. So before you begin your day, or your kid’s day, make sure to stay protected from the sun. You never know what kind of adventure lies ahead and the sun can be just as dangerous as your neighbor’s dog. So take care of your skin with sun tan lotion and a JoeShade portable umbrella before heading to the fields. Don’t waste a day inside because of sunburn, just keep your skin safe so you can head to the fields and become the next “Great Bambino”!
