Written by E Kennedy on April 3, 2013

Sometimes when it’s raining outside you can feel a little blue about the weather. All that precipitation can really put a damper on your plans when it comes to running errands, leaving the house, or heading out to your kids baseball game. However, when this happens I know it always helps if I plug in my iPod to my speakers, turn up the volume, and rock out to some appropriately themed rainy day music! To keep the clouds from making you feel grey here are a list of top five songs that will have you singing along and ready to see the sunny side to some rainy day weather. It’ll certainly help you to have a better perspective about a downpour, because of this upbeat music rain has been able to inspire! Whether its the Beatles reminding you that no one likes a person who complains about the weather, or Rihanna telling you about the handiness of your portable umbrella before you leave the house, these songs will be sure to have you in a better mood quickly!

Rain by the Beatles

The first song on our list is fittingly sung by a band who knows a thing or two about rainy weather from their hometown in London. Also, who doesn’t love this band for calling out all those people who complain too much about the weather! Their lyrics, can you hear me, that when it rains and shines, it’s just a state of mind, gives us all a good laugh about when we allow the weather to effect our mood. So go ahead and give it a listen. However, let’s all agree to disagree with The Beatles about one particular lyric pointing out people who hide in the shade! Listen, Beatles, we’ll keep safe under our UV umbrella when those harmful rays are shining down.

Umbrella by Rihanna

portable umbrella, UV umbrella

Rihanna has the right idea about using a portable umbrella in her pop anthem, singing about an umbrella as a metaphor for true friendship.

Now, Rihanna has the right idea about using a portable umbrella! In this pop anthem Rihanna sings in her stellar Barbados accent about how you can stand under my umbrella, ella, ella, ay ay ay! In this song Rihanna uses an umbrella as a metaphor for true friendship, and it will definitely seem like a fitting gesture when you are looking to venture out on a rainy day! This song will be sure to have you ready to take on a storm, and will also serve as a handy reminder about how helpful a portable umbrella can really be!

Purple Rain by Prince

Prince’s Purple Rain spent two weeks at the top of the charts, and for good reason! Prince’s lonely guitar solos, and lamentation, only wanted to see you laughing in the purple rain will sure to tug at your heart, and get you in a more contemplative mood about the beauty of the rain.

Fool in the Rain by Led Zepplin

Led Zepplin’s Fool in the Rain, will have you smiling for the rest of the day after you listen to Robert Plant singing about standing like a fool on the corner while the rain is coming down because of the light of the love that I found. Plant’s mission in the rain is to seek out a girl he loves and has him describing his hands quivering, palms getting drenched, and him running until he’s breathless, yet the man doesn’t give up! This testament to love will have you feeling happy.

Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head by B.J. Thomas

This song won an Academy Award for best original song and after being released in late 1969 for the movie Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. Raindrops is a classic rainy day song that will remind you that even though raindrops keep falling on my head that doesn’t mean my eyes will soon be turning red. So turn up this infectious and slightly addictive song because of the tendency to get stuck in your head! It will give you the courage to march out and brace your day preferably under your portable umbrella.
